On the 11th of July 1987, Walter Rohrl piloted the Audi S1 Quattro to the summit of the world famous Pikes Peak International Hill Climb course in an astonishing 10:47:85; becoming the first car and driver to ascend the course in under 11 minutes, and simultaneously smashing the previous record by over 22 seconds!
The Audi S1 Quattro is considered by many as the epitome of all the 1980?s Group B rally monsters, producing some 440 kW (around 600bhp) at 8,000rpm and 590Nm of torque from its highly-strung 2.1-litre five-cylinder engine.?Its large turbo charger spitting flames from its side-mounted exhausts became a famous and evocative image.
