Emerging from the shadows

François Cevert scythes his way around the tree lined Nürburgring circuit, tailing team leader Jackie Stewart during the 1973 German Grand Prix. After making an excellent start, and briefly leading, the "Tyrrell twins" ran away from the rest of the field, and scored an impressive 1-2. Cevert - Stewart's protégé, was coming of age and followed in the wheeltracks of Stewart all the way, Stewart telling Ken Tyrrell "François could've passed me anytime he liked". The dashing Frenchman was tipped to be a future champion, and would have made a formidable opponent in the number one Tyrrell seat for 1974. Unfairly, his fatal accident later in the year robbed the world of what might have been.
