Born in eastern France, Christophe Thurnherr relies on marquetry to express his Art.
This technique involves composing a masterpiece, using a multitude of wood species,
all cut with a very fine blade saw.
The parts are assembled in a specific pattern, and then glued one by one on the
support, in order to give life to the image and the final subject.
One perceives through his creations a passion for motor sports, an interest he grows
from childhood.
His models are sports cars and super cars of the modern era.
Following the inspiration of the moment, he will focus his attention on a specific
model and study all its details, to better transcribe them in the creation of its inlays.
Coming from the 5 continents, his color palette includes 45 spieces of precious
woods carefully selected, as well as mother of pearl, bone, gold foil, precious metals,
and dyed woods.
Games of shadows and lights give a 3D « trompe l’oeil » effect, a multiple layers of
varnish accentuates the depth of the masterpiece.
In his quest for the Grail, his creations are marked by attention to detail and
perfection.
They require at least 250 pieces and up to 2,700 for the most exclusive ones,
requesting seven months of work.
