James Hunt | 1976 F1 World Champion
James Hunt | 1976 F1 World Champion by Alex Stutchbury
McLaren Ford M23, 1976
Acrylic, 594mm x 420mm
James Hunt, the ‘playboy’ who was prone to crashing in junior formula, took his chance and grabbed the F1 World Championship in 1976 after a tense battle with Niki Lauda. He nicked the championship, from his Ferrari rival, by one point in a nail-biting finale in Japan. His reliable McLaren Ford M23 served him well and took him to 6 victories that season.Acrylic, 594mm x 420mm

Damon Hill | 1996 F1 World Champion by Alex Stutchbury
Williams Renault FW18, 1996
Acrylic, 594mm x 420mm
After two challenging seasons against the competitive combination of Michael Schumacher and Benetton, Hill finally clinched a well deserved World Championship at Suzuka in 1996. His main challenge came from his Canadian teammate Jacques Villeneuve. Between them they won 13 Grand Prix in the beautiful (Adrian Newey designed) FW18, with Hill taking the top spot eight times.Acrylic, 594mm x 420mm

Jody Scheckter | 1979 F1 World Champion
Jody Scheckter | 1979 F1 World Champion by Alex Stutchbury
Ferrari 312T4 | 1979
Limited Edition Giclée Print (Limited to 150 prints)Having earned his seat with
Scuderia Ferrari, after years of aggressive driving throughout the 1970s,
Scheckter changed his approach to one of consistency, to pick up the title from
teammate and crowd favourite Gilles Villeneuve. Having picked up wins earlier
in the year, Scheckter then had to take somewhat of a back seat when Williams
introduced their new ‘ground-effects’ car at Silverstone. However, his
continuous point scoring kept him ahead of the pack and able to claim (what
would be) Ferrari’s last title of the century. Here I have painted the
double-layered front end of the 312T4, Ferrari’s 1979 car.$93.50 -
Aryton Senna | 1988 F1 World Champion
Aryton Senna | 1988 F1 World Champion by Alex Stutchbury
McLaren Honda MP4/4 | 1988My painting of the sun reflecting off the bodywork of Aryton Senna’s first McLaren. The MP4/4 would dominate the 1988 season, winning 15 of the 16 Grand Prix. Using his immense talent, Senna took the World Championship by three points from teammate Alain Prost. The combination of Senna and McLaren followed up their first championship together with two more titles in 1990 and 1991.

Alain Prost | 1986 F1 World Champion
Alain Prost | 1986 F1 World Champion by Alex Stutchbury
McLaren Tag MP2/4 | 1986Prost
was a formidable driver. His speed and capacity to get the best from every
situation, through split-second calculations on track, earned him the nickname,
“The Professor”. He won 51 races and 4 World Championships, three
coming during his time at McLaren. Here I have depicted the nose of his 1986 car. This was one of his best title
wins, having defeated his three championship rivals in a dramatic finale in
Australia. His ability to nurse his empty car to the end, while his rivals
dropped out around him, perfectly illustrated his talent and cemented his place
as one of the all time greats.Acrylic, 594mm x 420mm

My artistic objective: “Formula One cars have always been designed for their aerodynamic efficiency, not their aesthetic quality. However, the beautifully sculpted carbon-fibre bodywork makes every car a piece of art in their own right. I have always been drawn to the detailed shapes of these amazingly intricate car designs. I love the way the reflections fall upon the curved metal, creating abstract patterns which can partially disguise these otherwise recognisable machines. These physical works of art can often be overpowered by advertising logos, but I try to draw the viewer’s attention away from these aspects and instead to the unique contours and lighting patterns that both defines the bodywork and makes them unique”.
