Jochen Rindt 1970 F1 World Champion

Jochen Rindt | 1970 F1 World ChampionBy Alex StutchburyLotus 72CJochen Rindt was considered one of the fastest drivers of his generation. The Austrian’s car control was admired by many and brought the best out of the temperamental Lotus 72. Colin Chapman created many inspired car designs, but often pushed the safety limits in his quest for ultimate perfection. Sadly, this proved to be the case in 1970, when Rindt’s car broke during Italian GP practice, killing him instantly. The points already amassed during the season meant Rindt still became World Champion, although he sadly never got to celebrate his title success. This painting is of his Lotus on its way to victory, in the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
