He started his career in 2005 at the age of 4, when he got into a go-kart. In 2010 he participated in the Junior class of the JAF All Japan Kart Championship. In 2013, he won a regional kart championship. At the 2015 JAF All Japan Kart Championship, he placed second.

Tsunoda made his single-seater debut in 2016 when he contested the penultimate race weekend of the Japanese Formula 4 Championship at Suzuka, where he raced for Sutekina Racing Team. He immediately finished second and fourth in the races, becoming 16th in the championship with 30 points. He remained active in this championship in 2017, but switched to the Honda Formula Dream Project (Motopark Academy) team. He won three races at the Okayama International Circuit, the Fuji Circuit and at Suzuka. With 173 points, he finished third behind Ritomo Miyata and Ukyo Sasahara.

In 2018 Tsunoda remained active in Japanese Formula 4. At the start of the season, he won five races in a row at Okayama, Fuji (twice) and Suzuka (twice). In the rest of the season they won victories over Sportsland SUGO and Twin Ring Motegi. However, due to a zero number of results, it took until the last race of the season at Motegi before he could be named champion after a long battle with his teammate Teppei Natori. He finished the season with 245 points.
